Md. House Speaker Busch suffers a lack of foresight

August 03, 2012

If Maryland House SpeakerMichael E. Buschpossessed any vision or statesmanship, he would have recognized 10 years ago the need for slots and gaming legislation to enhance state revenue and keep Maryland from falling behind its neighbors ("Busch: Gambling priority is revenue," Aug. 2).

Instead, he used all of his energy to block slots legislation. As a result, Maryland has been playing catch-up ever since. Is there any explanation for this other than mean-spirited petty politics?
