Why is Maryland bending over backward for MGM?

August 01, 2012

Now that Gov.Martin O'Malleyhas called a special session of the legislature to authorize a sixth casino site in Prince Georges County, how is it that no one has asked why MGM should get preferential treatment?

All the other five casino operators had to go through a review process so lengthy that two locations have not even been built yet.

MGM thinks their claim that they do not need a break on the taxes charged by the state should be considered by the legislature.

Who really cares what MGM thinks? Let them go through the same process as others if the voters approve a change to the state constitution.

Governor O'Malley and Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller have obviously cut a special deal out of sight of everyone except them and MGM.
