Assaulted by gun-related idiocy

We are surrounded by idiots! There are the idiots who are able to buy assault weapons with no problems. We have idiots from the film industry who insist on releasing idiotic violent movies. We have newscasters who barrage their audiences with violent stories (Has anyone watched the 11 o'clock local news in most cities?).

We have idiotic politicians who seem to think that ownership of assault weapons is OK — after all, the 2^nd Amendment says ownership of assault weapons is OK, forgetting the fact that the amendment was framed at a time when there were no restrictions on guns because we as a young country had not yet established a meaningful lawful society. After all, the West was founded on violence. Lawlessness was the norm. Have we not learned anything? I will at this point refrain from mentioning the NRA, the religious right and a certain political party who are bound and determined to force their demented ideas on a clueless population.

Am I finished? No, not yet. It is idiotic to ignore the fact that violence becomes a catalyst for violence in the minds of borderline mentally unstable individuals. I know what some of you are thinking — that there is no research to support that hypothesis. Maybe, but these horrific acts of mayhem and murder are frequently committed by mentally unstable individuals!

I wish to conclude this by saying to those who loudly claim that government is attempting to take away their God-given right to own guns that at no time has anyone suggested a complete ban on guns. What appears to me to be the issue is to promote regulation of assault weapons only. You gun lovers can keep your guns, but I don't want to see you on the streets with an assault weapon. That, my friends, is idiotic!
