Federal prison employee indicted for extortion

July 30, 2012|By Tricia Bishop

A 46-year-old woman who worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons was indicted on charges she demanded freebies and perquisites — including meals and spa services — from moving companies in exchange for bureau business, the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Monday.

Susan A. Pratt of Crofton was a supervisor in the “relocation services” section of the BOP, which handled moves for transferred prison employees, according to a six-count indictment returned against her returned last week.

She’s accused in court papers of finagling two free moves and gift certificates to Robert Andrew Salon and Spa in Gambrills from at least four moving companies from 2007 through October 2010. Pratt faces up to two years in prison for each count if convicted.
