Kickers off to perfect start

Both Billy Cundiff and Justin Tucker are 13-of-13 on field goals in first two days of training camp

Training camp is just two days old, but thus far, the kicking competition between eight-year veteran Billy Cundiff and undrafted rookie Justin Tucker has gotten off to an unblemished start.

Each kicker has made all 13 field-goal attempts he has been given at the Ravens’ practice facility in Owings Mills. Cundiff went 4-of-4 on Thursday and 9-of-9 on Friday, while Tucker was 5-of-5 on Thursday and 8-of-8 on Friday.

Both kickers have demonstrated plenty of leg, but Tucker is the only one to attempt a field goal of at least 50 yards. He booted a line drive of a 57-yarder that cleared the crossbar with a few yards to spare on Friday.

The kickers’ fast start was not lost on coach John Harbaugh.

“The kickers have done well,” he noted. “Have they missed one yet? I don’t think they have. We put them in pressure situations as much as we can out here. They are all kind of game-type situations. I’m very pleased with both those guys.”
