Damion Rashford, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard from Pickering, Ontario, who played his senior year of high school at Westwind Prep in Phoenix, has joined the Loyola men's basketball program for the 2012-13 season. Rashford averaged 18.8 points and 6.5 rebounds in 2011-12. He played Amateur Athletic Union ball in the Toronto area for Shane James, a 2007 Loyola graduate.

More men's college basketball: Coppin State is one of 12 teams selected to participate in the EA Sports Maui Invitational. The Eagles will play opening-round games against Southern California on Nov. 9 in Los Angeles and against Texas on Nov. 12 in Austin before participating in regional games in Elon, N.C., against Florida Atlantic on Nov. 17 and against Colgate or Elon on Nov. 18. Coppin is the first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference school to participate in the 28-year history of the tournament.

NBA: The Washington Wizards will play their home opener Nov. 3 against the Boston Celtics. The road opener will be Oct. 30 in Cleveland. The NBA-champion Miami Heat will visit Verizon Center on Dec. 4 and April 10.

Major League Lacrosse: The 2013 All-Star Game will be July 13 at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., home of the Charlotte Hounds, an expansion team this season.

Youth baseball: Tanner Bowen singled in Austin Golden with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Conococheague of District 1 to a 7-6 win over the host Berlin Junior All-Stars of District 8 in a Maryland State Junior League tournament semifinal Wednesday night. Berlin had scored two runs with two outs in the top of the inning to tie the game. Conococheague (3-1) advanced out of the losers' bracket to play undefeated Chesapeake City (3-0) of District 5 in the finals.

Varsity football: Cornerback Kendall Fuller of Olney and wide receiver Paul Harris of Upper Marlboro will participate for the Midwest in the Champion Gridiron Kings competition for skill-position players today through Sunday in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., It airs live on ESPN3 and Sunday at 7 p.m. on ESPNU.

Men's college lacrosse: Rising junior goalie Brock Turnbaugh (Hereford) has committed orally to Johns Hopkins. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound keeper helped lead Hereford to its fifth straight Class 3A-2A state championship. A member of the Baltimore Crabs, he was also All-County in football and wrestling. Turnbaugh also considered Towson, Penn State and Navy. ... A teammate of Turnbaugh's on the Baltimore Crabs, rising junior attackman Colin Chell (Boys' Latin), has committed orally to Ohio State. He also considered North Carolina and Notre Dame.

More men's college lacrosse: Duke named former Maryland defenseman Joe Cinosky, a former Chesapeake Bayhawk who now plays for the Charlotte Hounds, as a volunteer assistant coach.

College conferences: The Capital Athletic Conference, which includes Frostburg State, Salisbury and St. Mary's, added Penn State-Harrisburg as a full member beginning July 1, 2013. Christopher Newport and Southern Virginia had been added earlier for the 2013-14 academic year.
