Fall classes
Registration for fall classes offered by Anne Arundel Community College begins Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the county's seven senior activity centers. Classes begin the week of Oct. 1. To register and for schedule information, go to the center you wish to attend or online at aacounty.org/aging and click on a center for its list of courses.
Therapeutic yoga
Classes with Tina Marks will be held Tuesdays at the O'Malley Senior Activity Center, 1275 Odenton Road. Therapeutic yoga is offered from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m., and intermediate therapeutic yoga is offered from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cost and information: 410-222-6227.
Support groups
The Department of Aging and Disabilities has updated a booklet on community support groups. The booklet focuses on groups for care giving, Alzheimer's disease, bereavement for adults and children, diabetes, brain injury, cancer, stroke, cardiac and pulmonary problems, Parkinson's, and bowel and urinary diversions. Residents' rights
Brochures on residents' rights in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities and another brochure on the ombudsman program protecting those residents are available from the Department of Aging and Disabilities. The brochures are titled "Resident's Rights in Nursing Homes/Rehabilitation Centers in Maryland," "Resident's Rights in Assisted Living Facilities in Maryland" and "Ombudsman: Your Resident Advocate." Senior services
The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities has published its 2012-2013 edition of "Services for Seniors, Adults with Disabilities and Caregivers." The free directory is printed annually in May (Older Americans Month) and includes information on rental and housing assistance, legal help, county social services benefits and caregiver information. Copies are available at department headquarters, 2666 Riva Road, fourth floor, Annapolis; the seven senior activity centers; county libraries; at CVS, Food Lion and WaWa stores; and online at http://www.aacounty.org/aging. Senior housing

Workshop Merrill Lynch financial advisors Terrence and Ghislaine Frederick presents a workshop, "Taking Control of Your Retirement," at 10 a.m. Aug. 14. The workshop will cover retirement today, the burden of retirement income along with the longevity risk, inflation risk, sequence of return risk, and how an annuity may be an appropriate solution to fund a retirement income gap.

'Power of the Palette Knife' An art workshop will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 31. Art teacher Kathy Kniess will demonstrate how to use a palette knife to create and complete a painting. All skill levels are welcome, and class size is limited. Free.
Quilt Club Participants can help one another with projects and learn ideas and techniques every Friday at 1 p.m. at the O'Malley Annex. Machines are available. New members are welcome.

Cooking Rosalie Falter of Chefs on the Go presents "Italian Dishes Featuring Summer's Vegetables and Fruit" from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 8. The menu includes la Caprese-mozzarella and tomato salad using local produce; pasta made with fusilli or rotini combined with cheese, lemon, and asparagus with tarragon herb; and a dessert of parfait with ricotta and strawberry with whole milk, lemon and almonds.
