Flash flood warning issued for Baltimore area

Severe storms bring heavy rains

July 26, 2012|By Kevin Rector, The Baltimore Sun

A flash flood warning was issued for much of the Baltimore area shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday, and will be in effect through 2 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning applied to Baltimore City and Baltimore County, northwestern Harford County and east central Carroll County, the service said.

It was issued after the NWS's Doppler radar indicated "very heavy rain capable of producing flash flooding" and estimates that up to 3 inches of rain had already fallen on northern Baltimore County, the service said.

Additional rain of up to 2 inches could be expected in Baltimore City, the service said.

The warning followed severe thunderstorm warnings for much of the area through 10:15 p.m., including Balimore City and Baltimore, Carroll and Howard counties.
