Kim Morton was vacationing with her husband and two kids on Sanibel island in Florida two weeks ago and was passing the time in the ocean looking for sand dollars with her toes.
Suddenly, she came across something very smooth -- unnaturally smooth. She used her feet to pick it up and bring it to the surface and discovered it was an iPhone.
"It had little, tiny barnacles growing on it," Morton said.
It still worked. It was in some type of protective case she wasn't familiar with. She brought it back to her hotel and charged it up, and she called the number in the Contacts directory for "Mom."
Morton reached the mother, who said her son, Brandon, 18, had lost the iPhone while boating on July 4th and watching the fireworks on Sanibel. The family searched for hours for it in the water, without luck, Morton said. She found it on July 8th, in about 3-4 feet of water.
They had given it up for lost, Morton said she was told.
Until Morton discovered it.

Morton said Brandon's grandparents, who live in Florida, stopped by her hotel to pick it up.
