A Pikesville man is being held on $50,000 bond at Baltimore County Detention Center on charges that he stole two beers from the basement of a Towson bar.

County Police spokeswoman Cpl. Cathy Batton said a manager of the Kent House, in the 500 block of York Road in Towson, called police at 6:48 p.m. on Monday, July 16, to report a burglary in progress.

Police said the manager went to the basement and noticed the light was off, and when he got downstairs, found a man lying on the basement floor.

According to Batton, police later learned that the man had entered through the cellar door on the sidewalk, which was left open due to the heat.

While in the basement, Batton said the man apparently unscrewed the light bulb so that it could not be turned on. He took two bottles of Guinness from a storage closet, though he only drank one, police said.

When officers attempted to arrest him, he refused to put his hands behind his back. Officers had to pull his hands from beneath his body before he was then taken into custody.

Lewis Franklin Harvey, 53, of the 4700 block of Belle Forte Road in Pikesville, was charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary, theft under $100 and resisting arrest.
