An Army sergeant from Baltimore was killed by a roadside bomb Wednesday in Afghanistan, officials said.
Sgt. Daniel A. Rodriguez, 28, was traveling in Ghazni City in Eastern Afghanistan when his vehicle was struck by the enemy improvised explosive device, officials said.
He is the sixth service member from Maryland to die this year, and the fifth in Afghanistan.
Also killed in the attack was Sgt. Jose J. Reyes, 24, of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, officials said. IEDs are the leading cause of U.S. service member deaths in Afghanistan.
The soldiers, both heavy vehicle drivers, were assigned to the 548th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.
