Savage Boys and Girls Club
The Savage Boys and Girls Club's U-12 Screaming Eagles just returned from a successful trip to Cooperstown, N.Y. where they participated in a week-long tournament that included 104 teams from across the country and Canada.
The Eagles earned the eighth seed going into the elimination rounds and finished the tournament with a 7-1 record. Members of the team are Brendan Collins, Morgan Crampton, Timmy Dragonette, Todd Del Tufo, Jordan Gilbey, Tyler Green, A.J. Holcomb, Cameron Hyder, Brandon Laing, Peter Mudd and Josh Olsufka.
AYRA travel
The Atholton Youth Recreation Association Athletics 11-U travel team placed second in the 19th annual Bowie Baseball Tournament July 7-8. Members of the team are Noah Alper, Phillip Carroll, Jordan Davis, Kyle Hess, Alton Machen, Matt Meissner, Patrick Sherlock, Stephen Frazier and Adrien Sims.

Members of the Columbia Clippers participated in the ASC/RAC Sandbox Invitational July 5-8 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Clippers placing in the top eight were:

Tennis
USTA League
The McCoy Ball Busters 4.5 men's USTA League tennis team won their flight at the Maryland District tournament last weekend and will represent Howard County at the Mid-Atlantic Sectionals Aug. 10-13 in Newport News, Va.
If the team wins that tournament, it will represent the Mid-Atlantic region at the national championships Oct. 26-28 in Tucson, Az.
Members of the team are Doug Alban, Bill Bartolotta, Jon Boustany, Jeff Britt, Matt Geppi, Mehrban Iranshad, Jens Kemp, Rich Kent, Tom Liao, Mike Lissner, Jeff Manwiller, Steve McCoy, Dan Morgan, Victor Ng, Michael O'Connell, Patrick Orwig, David Rowlett, Luis Ruiz, Michael Steinberg and Michael Vann.
Running
Centennial Fun Run
Mark Eagles, undefeated in the Centennial Fun Run this summer, led again last week. Kirsten Wikner, 12, just seconds ahead of her competition, won for the women.
With a kick at the finish, Jasmine Ives, 7, out ran her mother Shelly Kvech, the "original Fun Run girl."
Kaiden Haggerty, 8, traveled all the way from North Carolina to compete in the Fun Run and also to visit grandparents. The Nelson family came from Alaska, also to visit grandparents.
Scott McGrew of State Farm, as he has for the past dozen years, visited with random prizes and an opportunity for kids to place a simulated emergency phone call.
