A Reisterstown man was killed in a vehicle collision Monday afternoon that closed all northbound lanes of Interstate 795 between Interstate 695 and Franklin Boulevard near Owings Mills, according to Maryland State Police.
About 1:38 p.m., police responded to the northbound lanes of the highway south of Franklin Boulevard for a collision involving a passenger van and a flatbed truck.
An investigation showed that traffic had slowed on the highway ahead of Vincent Thomas Dipaula, 55, who failed to slow the speed of his Ford Ecoline van, police said.
Dipaula's van struck the rear of a Buick Century, then was redirected into the rear of a Sterling flatbed truck, police said.
Dipaula was taken via medevac to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:48 p.m., police said. No one else was injured, police said.
The accident and subsequent investigation, which involved state police reconstructing the scene, shut down all lanes of northbound I-795 for three hours, police said.
During that time, traffic from I-695 was not allowed onto I-795 and traffic already on I-795 south of the accident was diverted onto Owings Mills Boulevard, police said.
