Eveland, who allowed three earned runs in a short relief appearance of Hammel on Friday, has been put on waivers and, if he clears Monday, likely will return to Triple-A Norfolk.

He could refuse the assignment and become a free agent, but then he would forfeit what is remaining of the $750,000 contract he signed this winter. In 14 games (two starts), Eveland was 0-1 with a 4.73 ERA while serving various roles.

Socolovich made his big-league debut in the 10th and pitched a perfect inning, before being charged with an earned run in the 11th. In 24 games with Norfolk, he was 3-0 with a 1.77 ERA and struck out 50 batters in 45 2/3 innings.

Brooks at the game

Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson, who hadn't been to Camden Yards this year because of health issues, attended Saturday's sculpture unveiling for his former teammate Jim Palmer.

“It was great,” Palmer said. “To me, it was the ultimate gesture because I know he isn't feeling well.”

The 75-year-old Robinson, who is recovering from a January fall among other physical challenges, was present for the statue ceremony but did not stay for the pregame, on-field presentation and was not available to the media afterward. When introduced to the crowd during the unveiling, Robinson smiled and waved.

Robinson's own sculpture unveiling was moved from May 12 to Sept. 29 because of his health.
