Karen M. Liss Levin, a senior engineer for United Parcel Service who enjoyed playing the piano, died of cancer July 3 at Greater Baltimore Medical Center.
The longtime Timonium resident was 54.
Born and raised in Norwich, N.Y., Ms. Levin was a 1976 graduate of Norwich Senior High School.
She earned a bachelor's degree in 1980 in piano performance from Fredonia State College in Fredonia, N.Y. She graduated in 1984 from Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in computer science.
Miss Levin began her professional career as a software developer for the Harris Corp. in Orlando, Fla. In 1989, she joined UPS as a senior engineer at what was then Roadnet Technologies in Timonium.
She had not retired at her death.
Miss Levin enjoyed playing her Steinway grand piano and also was a multimedia artist. She worked in stained glass, made beaded tapestries and knitted sweaters. She also enjoyed crocheting.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Road.
Surviving are her parents, Robert A. and Ruth H. Levin of Myerstown, Pa.; a brother, Robert Levin of Annapolis; two sisters, Sandra Groth of Lancaster, Pa., and Sarah Remelt of Rochester, N.Y.; her companion of 10 years, James Bowen of Timonium; and several nieces and nephews.
