St. Mary's College alum Rogalski to coach Lafayette

Men's college lacrosse: Jim Rogalski has been named coach at Lafayette. Rogalski most recently coached Scranton. He previously worked as an assistant at Drexel, Washington & Lee, Goucher, Western New England and St. Mary's, his alma mater.

Towson: Former soccer players Todd Hicks and Tina Steck (Mercy), former All-America defensive end Andrew Hollingsworth and shortstop Lisa Pollock are this year's inductees into the Towson University Athletics Hall of Fame. They will be inducted Sept.21. Hicks finished his career as one of the leading scorers in school history with 20 goals and 28 assists. Hollingsworth was the Tigers' first consensus All-American in 2000. Pollock batted .311 in 218 games. Steck, a goalkeeper, was a two-time all-conference selection.

Men's track and field: Coppin State's Jibri Victorian finished 24th overall in the 400-meter hurdles at the U.S. Olympic trials Thursday in Eugene, Ore. Victorian, competing in the second of four heats, finished sixth in his heat in 52.21 seconds.

Lacrosse: Chris Sanderson, former goaltender for the now-Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse, died Thursday morning after a 31/2-year battle with brain cancer. He was 38. Sanderson, a Virginia alumnus who also played for the NLL's Baltimore Thunder and New Jersey Storm, was diagnosed with the grade IV malignant tumor glioblastoma multiforme in December 2008. The Orangeville, Ontario, native was named the All-World goalie at the 1998 world championships in Baltimore. He is survived by his wife, Brogann, and two daughters, Stevie and Clementine.

WNBA: Washington was led by Monique Currie's 21 points and Crystal Langhorne (Maryland) added 11 points, but the last-place Mystics dropped their fifth consecutive game, 77-64, to the visiting Connecticut Sun.

Major League Soccer: D.C. United acquired striker Long Tan from Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Thursday for a first-round selection in the 2015 supplemental draft. Tan joined Vancouver before last season, becoming the first Chinese-born player in the league. ... D.C. United signed midfielder Branko Boskovic to a new contract.

Capitals: Defenseman Connor Carrick, the team's fifth-round selection in this month's entry draft, decommitted from Michigan and signed with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League. ... The Capitals re-signed center Mike Carman to a one year extension.

Golf: Bennett Wisner of Hampstead and Rachel Lee (Marriotts Ridge) of Woodstock won the MAPGA Junior PGA Championship at Montgomery Country Club in Gaithersburg. By winning their divisions, Wisner and Lee qualified for the Junior PGA Championship from July 31 to Aug. 3 in Fort Wayne, Ind. Wisner posted a final-round 65 for a two-day total of 137 and a two-stroke win over Tyler Silberberg (Wilde Lake) of Columbia. Lee, 16, had a final-round 74 for a two-day total of 146 and a five-stroke win over Bryana Nguyen (Atholton) of Columbia.
