Orioles optimistic prospect Nicky Delmonico's injury isn't serious

Class-A Delmarva infielder Nicky Delmonico, one of the top prospects in the Orioles farm system, went on the disabled list for a knee injury Thursday, but the organization is optimistic the injury isn't serious.

Delmonico came out of Tuesday's game after a baserunner slid into him at second base trying to break up a double play. He had an MRI on Wednesday, but it hasn't been read. The Orioles believe Delmonico suffered a sprain at the worst and wanted to to an MRI as a precaution. The minor leagues have a seven-day DL.

On Thursday afternoon, Delmonico tweeted, "I'll be back soon."

Delmonico, the Orioles' sixth-round pick last year out of Knoxville (Tenn.) Farragut High School, is hitting .254/.351/.402 with 20 doubles, 6 homers and 43 RBIs this season. He was just named the MVP of the South Atlantic League All-Star Game after going 2-for-4 with a double.

Delmonico is ranked the organization's sixth best prospect, according to Baseball America.
