Letter: Funds still needed for Catonsville's July 4th celebration

June 27, 2012

As chairs line up on Frederick Road and excitement builds, the Catonsville Celebrations Committee continues to work at raising the $100,000 funds needed to pay for the Fourth of July parade and fireworks.

You can help by buying shirts at the Frederick Road Friday concerts until June 29 and in front of Opie's on July 1 from 11a.m. to 6 p.m. Or mail a check to the Catonsville Celebrations Committee at P.O. Box 21202,Catonsville, MD 21228.

We will also collect donations, just ahead of the parade.

Parade marshals are tasked with keeping the roadway clear of spectators, for two reasons.

In the event of an emergency, such as the heart attacks and baby deliveries experienced in recent years, this is the only path to get help quickly.

In the past, there have been close calls with parade vehicles and children in the street.

Marchers are asked not to throw anything because children run out, which could result in a catastrophe. Please keep children on the curb for everyone's safety.

Let's keep this holiday tradition alive!
