Pratt's job to scrutinize spending

June 20, 2012

City Comptroller Joan Pratt disagrees with MayorStephanie Rawlings-Blakeon city spending ("Mayor defied on 2 fronts," June 19). It is part of her job to voice her opinion.

Before there is a rush to judgment, consider a time when another comptroller acted likewise. Certainly, the late Hyman A. Pressman often did the same thing. Most voters today, along with most of the staff of The Sun, are too young to remember him and his steadfastness to his responsibilities to the city taxpayer.
