Clarke finally doing something for schools? Not really

It seems Baltimore City Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke has joined the ranks of politicians in La-La Land when she states, "This is the first time in my entire time in the City Council, and as a parent and grandparent, that I've had a chance to be part of a big plan for schools" ("Bottle tax rise gains in council," June 12).

This is not Councilwoman Clarke's first term. In fact, she has served several terms collecting her paycheck every two weeks while doing nothing about schools. When someone has the nerve to berate the city she is all mouth.

Instead of voting to raise the bottle tax, maybe she should be asking why it is taking so long to award the slots location, which will create revenue from residents and others who choose to play slots. All she needs to do is ask the other resident of La-La Land, Gov.Martin O'Malley.

Maybe she should do a review of lost revenue from the failure to award the slots location or better yet, come clean on how much the city lost on the Baltimore Grand Prix.
