Deep thought from Michael Phelps: Is random drug testing really random?

The Olympian seems to have his doubts.

"Feel like my #randomness for drug testing is like the randomness at the security lines at airports...6 times in three weeks?? Really?" he Tweeted this afternoon.

"And not saying its bad that they test... But a little excessive IMO... Just wonder if the other athletes out there are getting the "randomness" that I get..."

Perhaps he's alluding to personal history.

Phelps was caught smoking a bong in a photo not long after he made history at the 2008 Olympics.

He admitted he was indeed smoking marijuana, calling his behavior "regrettable" and "bad judgement."

In seconds Wednesday afternoon, his Tweets had already been retweeted dozens of times. No immediate answers from other athletes.

But he did get few replies from his following:

"In the words of Doug O'Neill, "When you're good, you're put under a bigger microscope," CC Carlini wrote.

"The price of being awesome!" Jenna Woodward said. "Just as Lance Armstrong about "random" testing....!!

TJ Witkowski was a bit more, um, blunt: "Yeah but you'll be ashin the blunt on another Gold medal here shortly!"
