As many vacationers and beach lovers know, boogie boards - also known as a body boards - are a staple of beach life. It seems everyone, both young and old, loves to grab a few rides on the shore break while simultaneously dodging groups of swimmers. If you have had the pleasure of chilling on the shore in the past few summers, you have probably noticed a new style of body board floating almost every kid in the water.
Name: Beater Surfboards
What they are: Slightly larger and more floatable body boards.
Why we like them: With a soft top and a longer, narrower surfboard-like shape, they can be ridden laying down like a body board or standing up like a normal surfboard. That versatility has allowed Beaters to become one of the staples in the O.C. surf scene. One the of biggest factors that have allowed Beaters to gain popularity is not only that they are a great way to work on your surf skills and have fun in the waves, but since Catch offers a Beater without fins, surfers and body boarders are allowed to ride their boards on non-surf designated beaches in OC. In a nutshell, you can still surf, but you don't necessarily have to fight the line-ups at the surf beach of the day.
Price: $149.99 - $179.99
Where to find: Local retailers like Chauncey's Surf Shop and others carry the boards made by Catch Surfboard Co, but you can also shop online, of course.
