Parkton American Legion honors essay winners

Parkton American Legion Post 256 received 129 essays from students at Prettyboy, Fifth District and Our Lady of Grace schools for its annual Americanism essay contest. This year's title was "How Can I Show My Patriotism in My Community"

Jonathan Marker, a fifth-grader at Fifth District and Joshua Beach, in eighth grade at Our Lady of Grace, were honored at a banquet on May 3 in Baltimore for their third-place finishes in their grade levels in competition against 18 legion posts in the northern central district. They were honored at a banquet on May 3 in Baltimore.

The Parkton American Legion will honor all participants on June 1 at the post on York Road with a picnic.

Those attending are:

Prettyboy Elementary School: Nathan Jones and Hailey Apperson,

Fifth District Elementary School: Ethan Berger, Ella Maley, Abbey Kerr, Jonathan Marker, Briana Hess, Keegan Hoover and Taigh Donovan.

Our Lady of Grace School: Kaelyn Duvall, Grace Beach, Emily Ready,

Evan Rothman, Nicole Sann, Matthew Minogue, Joshua Beach, Jennifer Bienert, and Teddy Strozyn.
