If it weren't for Obama, bin Laden would still be alive

May 18, 2012

I find it amazing that people really don't understand the death of Osama bin Laden and that a reader of your paper could write that President Barack Obama shouldn't get credit for it ("SEALs, not Obama, deserve credit for bin Laden death," May 9).

No one is taking any credit from the SEALs for their heroism in ridding the world of someone the Bush administration spent more than six years trying to catch. But let's not forget that Mr. Obama was the one who kept our military focused on that goal.

The president is the commander-in-chief, which means that he is also the person who would have taken the fall if our military had mis-identified bin Laden or killed the wrong person. He made the judgment call to go in anyway, and he deserves the credit.

I wish Americans would give this president credit for the awful mess that he is cleaning up. Get out of the way and let Mr. Obama do the job he was elected to do.
