Mt. Hebron High School is hosting a fastpitch hitting camp June 11-15. The camp, run by coach Chuck Struhar, is open to students in grades 3-8 (incoming ninth graders) and will focus on hitting, bunting and baserunning. Email

The Maryland Stars fastpitch camp will be held June 25-29 at Mayeski Park in Carroll County. The camp is for players ages 7-13 and is offered in two time slots (9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m.). Cost: $120 per session (if registered before June 1). Email


The county rec department is inviting boys and girls to register for its Summer Rugby League (ages 6-18) and rugby camps (ages 7-16). Ages 6-14 play a two-hand touch version of the game; ages 15-18 play the tackle version. The teams practice twice a week from 6:30-8:30 p.m. starting the second week of June. Special Olympics

Orioles fans who plan to attend games at Camden Yards this year have the opportunity to help Special Olympics athletes at the same time. Special Olympics has obtained vouchers for $15 tickets to all Oriole games except the prime games. Five dollars from each ticket purchased will go to Special Olympics. Football and cheer

The Howard County Terps youth tackle football and cheerleading is open for registration. The Terps are for ages 5 through 14. Practices start July 30 and games begin in late August. Home games will be played on the new turf fields at Blandair Park. Register at 410-313-7275.

Register for the Ellicott City Patriots football, cheerleading or new poms squad. Ages 4-14 are welcome (four year olds are for junior cheer).

The cheer and poms programs need head coaches, assistant coaches, teen coaches, competition coaches, tumbling coaches, stunt coaches, dance coaches, fitness trainers and administrative helpers. Every position is open and all candidates will be interviewed. Email or call 443-250-9838.

The Bulldog Spring NIT will be held May 26 in Ellicott City from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. This is a USFTL Flag Football tournament. Cost: $275 (plus officials fees due before each game). Register by 6 p.m., May 20.

High school football officials and timers are needed in the Washington metropolitan area. Anyone who has reached their 18th birthday prior to Sept. 1, 2012 and has a desire to officiate high school football is eligible. No experience is required. Knowledge of the rules and officiating will be provided during training sessions which start in July.

The CCC Warriors Football and Cheerleading program is registering for the fall season. The Warriors are for ages 7-14. Practice starts in late July. Go to or call 410-637-5999.


The first Wilde Lake Wildecat Golf outing is scheduled for June 1 at Fairway Hills golf club. The tournament, which will benefit the Wilde Lake High School Boosters Club, is scheduled to begin at noon and is a scramble format. Single entry fees are $85 per person and include golf, continental breakfast, dinner and prizes. Discounts are available for foursomes. Opportunities for sponsorships, ranging from $50-$300, are also available.

Atholton High School's SGC and Lettermen Club will host a 5k walk/run to benefit the Scleroderma Foundation on May 19 at Atholton. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the walk to follow at 10 a.m. Email

The Atholton Elementary School PTA is holding its second annual Panthers Pounding the Pavement 5k and 1-mile Family Fun Run/Walk June 3 at 9 a.m. at Atholton Park in Columbia. The 5k will tour the rolling hills of the Allview community, while the Fun Run/Walk will be on a less-challenging course designed to be kid-friendly. Post-race party to include music, food, beverages and a raffle with great prizes.
