Letter: 911 Center an important building

May 10, 2012|Letter to The Aegis

Editor:

In response to the person who wrote a letter condemning the county for building a new Emergency Operations Center, let me ask:  What was the most important building in the county in February of 2010? Not a school. There was a blizzard – schools were all closed.

What was the most important building in the county in August of 2011? Not a school. There was a hurricane – schools were all closed.

What is the more important building in the county between the middle of June and August? Not a School. People are still calling 911.

The County Executive and County Council have done and continue to do an excellent job on school construction with 11 brand new or highly renovated schools with four others planned in the near future. More than any other time in our history! If that self centered person who wrote the letter has to call for an emergency service, tell him to call a school and wait for the reply. The county needs a new EOC facility. It's about time!
