Harford law enforcement officers honored for their 2011 DWI arrests


The Harford County State's Attorney's Office held its annual awards ceremony Wednesday for the top law enforcement officers who made outstanding drunk and drugged driving arrests in Harford County during 2011.

State's Attorney Joseph Cassilly presented the awards in the ceremonial courtroom in the courthouse.

"Our law enforcement officers are the best in their efforts to maintain safety on the roads in our county," Cassilly said. "They are responsible for saving many lives and sparing families the devastation caused by impaired drivers. Harford County is proud to acknowledge their service."

The ceremony also recognized Drug Recognition Experts, or DRE, who are instrumental in arrests of drugged drivers.

The award recipients and their number of arrests are (* indicates a repeat performance in DWI arrests):

Harford County Sheriff's Office: DFC J.J. Miner,* 28 (21 years in the top five); DFC Mike Stambaugh,* 28; DFC Shane Fraser* 25; DFC Chris Maddox 25; DFC Mark Pilachowski* 22; DFC Ron Dawson* 18; and DFC Grant Krulock* 13.

Maryland State Police, Bel Air Barrack: TFC Michael J. Bonczewski,* 46, (three-time Trooper of the Year); Trooper Steven T. Muehl,* 41; TFC Jason Langenfelder,* DRE, 30; Tfc Joseph Wargo,* DRE, 29; and TFC Michael Cornbrooks,* 24.

Maryland State Police, JFK Highway: TFC Gerald Askins,* 57; TFC Hasim Johnson, 28; TFC Nicholas Iannucci, 26; and Trooper Matthew Atkinson, 25.

Maryland Transportation Authority Police: Off. Gregory Sampson,* 27; Off, Timothy Howell,* 15; Off. Andre Fontz,* 13, DRE, 11; and Cpl. Emory Williams,* 8.

Bel Air Police Department: Cpl. Robert E. Pfarr,* DRE, 13; Ofc. Serio D'Alto,* eight; Ofc. Matthew F. Gullion, seven; Ofc. Jonathan W. Kauffman,* six; and Sgt. Henry L. Marchesani,* five.

Aberdeen Police Department: Ofc. Jeannette Giganti*, 19; Ofc. Craig Gentile,* seven; and Ofc. Timothy Helf, six.

Havre de Grace Police Department: Pfc. Jonathan Sova,* two DRE and 24 arrests (also attended and graduated the DRE training 2011); Pfc. Marcus Rodriquez,* 10; Pfc. Aaron Sandruck,* two DRE, nine (also a new DRE graduate during 2011); Pfc. Brian Daniels,* seven; and Pfc .Jeremy Lathroum, six.

The Harford County State's Attorney's Office has been active in the annual DWI Law Enforcement Recognition Awards for the past 21 years and has supported the outstanding work of each officer.
