State Common Cause chief departing

May 04, 2012|By Michael Dresser, The Baltimore Sun

Susan Wichmann, executive director of Common Cause Maryland, said Friday that she is leaving that post to be a full-time, stay-at-home mother an occasional volunteer for the government reform group.

She said James Browning from the regional office – her predecessor – will cover Maryland until a new executive director is hired.

Wichmann, 42, has been executive director of the state group since January 2011. As chief lobbyist for Common Cause in Annapolis, she is coming off a successful session during which lawmakers passed some of the group's top priorities: putting the ethical disclosure forms of legislators and other top officials online and requiring campaigns to disclose the occupation and employer of large donors.

Before going to work for Common Cause, Wichmann was a campaign finance consultant for the League of Conservation Voters.
