2012 stats: .215/.345/.344, 2 HRs, 7 RBIs, 13 R, 2 doubles, 2 triples, 25 Ks, 18 BBs, 8 SB, 0 CS
Skinny: Speaking of struggles, Avery nearly took the collar for the entire week, going just 1-for-24 (.042) in six games. His lone hit was a single, and Avery is hitless over his past 14 at-bats. The silver lining? He walked six times while striking out only two.
10. Dan Klein, RHP
2012 stats: N/A
Skinny: Klein is likely to miss the 2012 season after undergoing a second shoulder surgery.
Minor league spotlight on: Scott Beerer, OF, Triple-A Norfolk
2012 stats: .215/.250/.277, 0 HR, 7 RBIs, 6 R, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 5 Ks, 2 BBs
Skinny: Beerer’s stats are nothing to write home about, but he’s in the spotlight this week for a more unfortunate reason. The team announced that the outfielder, who spent much of the spring in big league camp, was placed on the disabled list with a broken bone in his left wrist (specifically, the hamate bone). Beerer, a one-time pitcher who at one point had walked away from baseball, is expected to be sidelined eight to 10 weeks.
