Some pre-game notes:
Jim Johnson is back in the clubhouse after spending four nights in the hospital with an illness that was eventually diagnosed as a severe case of food poisoning. Johnson left Saint Agnes Hospital this morning. He played catch Friday is listed as day-to-day.
“I'm just kind of lethargic, I guess, right now,” Johnson said. “I've been laying on my back for four days. Just getting on my feet, running around, doing some [cardio] stuff was good”.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter wouldn’t say whether Johnson is available to pitch tonight, but I’d have to think that would be a major stretch.
Second baseman Robert Andino returned from the paternity list after his daughter was born Wednesday. The club did not announce a corresponding roster move yet, with Showalter saying he wanted to wait until after batting practice to make sure everyone is healthy. The likely move is for Jason Berken, who was recalled Wednesday for Andino, to be sent back to Triple-A Norfolk.
Rookie Ryan Flaherty is getting his third straight start Friday night. This time, he’ll be at third base. Flaherty had his first big league hit – a bunt single – and first RBI on a sacrifice fly Thursday. Showalter said he wanted to get Flaherty three straight starts. Wilson Betemit likely will be in the starting lineup Saturday, Showalter said.
Lefty Zach Britton (shoulder) threw off a mound for the first time Friday since receiving an injection in his ailing shoulder in March. Showalter wouldn’t reveal a timeline for his return to the Orioles but said Britton remains on the rehab schedule the team outlined for him.
