Randallstown alum Womack is Houston-bound
Former Randallstown basketball guard Tione Womack has signed with Houston. The former first-team All-Metro player, who led the Rams to two state titles, has spent the past two years at Hagerstown Community College. Womack averaged 10 points, 7.6 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 2.9steals as a sophomore. "Tione has a pass-first mentality that creates easy scoring opportunities for his teammates and is a quick, solid on-ball defender," Cougars coach James Dickey said in a news release.
More men's basketball: Maryland signee Jake Layman of King Phillip Regional High in Wrentham, Mass., is among 24 players who have accepted invitations to attend the USA Basketball under-18 national team training camp June 5-12 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Men's college lacrosse: Host Hood (4-12, 2-6 Capital Athletic Conference) won the game but lost a playoff spot. Shane O'Keefe scored three goals in a 10-6 victory over Marymount (5-10, 2-6). A three-way tie for sixth place (Hood, Marymount and Wesley were all 2-6 in the league) was decided by a coin flip, and Hood lost. Marymount beat Wesley head-to-head in the regular season and claimed the sixth spot.
Women's lacrosse: Allison Terry (Catholic) scored a game-high six goals to lead host Notre Dame (Md.) to a 14-12 victory over Bryn Mawr (2-12). The Gators (7-6) led 6-4 at halftime.
Pimlico Race Course: Regal Nurse ran her winning streak to eight with a dominating eight-length victory in Thursday's ninth race. It was the first turf score for the daughter of Monarchos, who was recently claimed by top trainer Dane Kobiskie.
Major League Soccer: Maicon Santos scored the equalizer in the 72nd minute as D.C. United (2-2-3) extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a 1-1 draw with the visiting Montreal Impact (1-5-2) on Wednesday night. Montreal scored in the 68 minute.
High school baseball: Under Armour and Baseball Factory will host an open tryout for players ages 14-18 on May 13 in Catonsville. The event will take place at Baseball Factory Field at UMBC at 1 p.m. It is an opportunity for them to be evaluated by pro scouts and to learn how to improve their game while having fun out on the field.
