Goucher riding program-high 10-game winning streak

Gophers haven't lost since Feb. 29, excited about run of success

April 19, 2012|By Edward Lee

Since dropping an 8-5 decision to Gettysburg Feb. 29, Goucher has ripped off 10 straight victories, setting a new program record. For the Gophers, who share the No. 13 ranking with the Bullets in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll, the streak is a symbol of pride.

“It’s exciting,” coach Kyle Hannan said Wednesday afternoon. “I think anytime you’re winning, it’s very exciting. And they’ve been meaningful games. That makes it even more special because there have been some Landmark [Conference] games in there. And it gives you that belief in what we’re doing and what we’re capable of doing. So it’s all positive right now. I wouldn’t be honest if I didn’t say that we’re really excited about where we are now.”

Goucher (13-1) ranks 10th in Division III in offense (13.7 goals per game) and eighth in defense (5.6), but Hannan thinks the team has the potential to do more.

“I think we’re playing well,” he said. “Our record shows that. Some of the opponents that we’ve been fortunate enough to beat shows that we’re playing well, but I don’t know if we’re playing on all cylinders. I think there’s room for improvement with this team. As a staff, we’re meeting a few times a day and think things are going well, but we’re moving some people around and trying to make the Goucher lacrosse team even better. We’re trying some guys in different spots and trying to find ways to be even more dangerous on game day. I think we’re playing well, but I think we’re capable of even playing better, and that’s what you hope for late in the year because every game is meaningful now.”
