Loyola checks in at first in RPI

No. 2 Greyhounds top first list released by NCAA

One of two undefeated teams remaining in Division I, Loyola has distanced itself from the rest of the pack by sitting atop the first list of RPI (ratings percentage index) rankings released by the NCAA.

The No. 2 Greyhounds (11-0) are first in the rankings, which use a formula of compiling a team’s winning percentage, that squad’s opponents’ winning percentage and the team’s opponents’ opponents’ winning percentage.

No. 9 Johns Hopkins (9-2) ranks second in RPI, Virginia (10-2) is third, Maryland (7-3) is fourth, and No. 3 Massachusetts (11-0) is fifth.

No. 4 Notre Dame (9-1), No. 5 Duke (11-3), No. 16 Lehigh (11-2), No. 1 Cornell (9-1) and No. 7 North Carolina (9-4) round out the top 10.

Locally, Towson (7-5) ranks 19th, UMBC (4-6) 27th, Navy (5-6) 29th, and Mount St. Mary’s (3-7) 45th.
