A 33-year-old man sitting in the back of a bar packed with up to 80 patrons on Belair Road was shot several times in the head and body early Wednesday, one of seven people killed in the city in the past five days.
Baltimore police said a gunman walked into La’Son’s Bar and Grill a few minutes before 1 a.m., pushed his way to the back and opened fire on Derrick Deon Smith, who was sitting in a secluded area behind the bar.
Smith, of the 3500 block of chesterfield Ave., was rushed to Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was pronounced dead early Wednesday. A Baltimore police spokesman said it appears that Smith had been targeted, though detectives had not established a motive. Police said they were interviewing many witnesses.
The shooting occurred on a commercial strip at the southern tip of Belair Edison and the northern most point of Clifton Park. It occurred as the city dealt with a second consecutive night of violence that has claimed seven lives since Friday.
On Tuesday night, officers found a 29-year-old man suffering from multiple wounds to the head and body in the 1700 block of North Spring St., east of Harford Road in the Oliver community. He died at 11:43 p.m. at Johns Hopkins Hospital, about 30 minutes after he was shot. Police identified him as Marvin Lee Buckson, of the 300 block of East North Ave.
Two men wounded in additional shootings Tuesday night. A 28-year-old man was found at 9:19 p.m. in the alley behind the 1100 block of Myrtle Ave. on the city’s west side. He had sustained wounds to his back and arms and remains in serious condition at an area hospital.
Police also responded to a 7:15 p.m. report of shots fired in the 5700 block of Wabash Ave. in Park Heights. They located the victim at 7:33 p.m., after the man walked into an area hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm.
Police have identified the victim of a shooting Monday night in the 1300 block of Aisquith St. as Ricardo Mabray, 27, but have not yet located the relatives of another man shot the same night in Northwest Baltimore. In that case, a 34-year-old man was shot about 9:40 p.m. in the 4700 block of Liberty Heights Ave.
Two men were fatally shot on Saturday and a man was shot and killed while eating crabs on Friday in West Baltimore.
