If the North Harford Hawks expected an easy game Tuesday afternoon, they got anything but and had to battle Havre de Grace for eight innings before coming out with a 6-5, non-division victory over the host-team Warriors.

The win put North Harford (6-1 Chesapeake Division) at 8-1 on the year, while Havre de Grace (2-6 Susquehanna Division) fell to 2-7 on the year.

Down 2-0 after the Hawks posted their second run of the game in the top half of the third, Havre de Grace pushed across four runs in the home half of the inning.

The Hawks tied things at 4 in the fifth, then took back the lead with a one-run rally in the seventh. Three outs away from losing, Havre de Grace knotted the game at 5 in the bottom of the seventh, but the Hawks scored what would be the game-winning run in the top of the eighth.

Hawk sophomore Brian Shaffer picked up his first pitching win of the season, holding Havre de Grace to a pair of hits and no runs in a 1-1/3 inning relief appearance. Jon Hammer tossed 3-2/3 innings of relief for the Hawks, allowing only one run in the seventh inning before he was removed.

Leading the Hawks at the plate was Cody Brittain, who was 3-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and a pair of stolen bases.

Luis Nieves-Gonzalez paced the Warriors' lineup, going 2-for-4 with a double and posting one RBI. Keith Sifford scored twice and drove in one RBI, while teammates David Amici and Dan Jamison both went 1-for-4 with one run scored. Logan Poore scored one run in the loss.

Christian Glassman tossed all eight innings for the Warriors, allowing four earned runs, striking out four and issuing two walks.
