High winds and dry conditions contributed to a three-alarm fire that caused about $400,000 in damages to a Dundalk church. Investigators determined the fire was deliberately set and ruled it an arson Wednesday.
Investigators said fire was started in two sheds in the rear of Pleasant Zion Baptist Church in the 4300 block of North Point Boulevard. Police said they have no suspect at this time.
Fire crews, who arrived shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, found a shed and debris fire threatening the church. A combination of low humidity and high winds allowed the fire to spread rapidly and quickly breach the church's roof. Flames engulfed the entire structure and forced crews to withdraw from the church interior and battle the fire from the exterior, officials said. Firefighters had the blaze under control within an hour and no one was injured.
Police are asking the public to call 410-307-2020 or contact Metro Crime Stoppers, http://www.metrocrimestoppers.org with any information about his case. Citizens, who provide information leading to the indictment or arrest of a suspect, may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
