Marlee Paton had four goals and five assists and No. 11 Loyola tied a school record for best start in Big East play with a 17-8 victory over host Louisville. The Greyhounds improved to 8-3, 4-0; the Cardinals fell to 3-7, 1-2.
More state women: Kaitlyn Larrimore (North Harford) had a hat trick, but host Mount St. Mary's (4-9, 3-2 Northeast Conference) fell, 12-10, to Bryant (3-8, 2-2). Haley Bloom had a game-high five goals, and Lauren Sheridan scored her 100th goal for the Bulldogs. ... Hannah Khin and Anneke Ossorio each had four goals, but visiting Goucher (4-8, 0-2 Landmark) lost, 18-10, to Catholic (7-4, 2-0).
National women: Visiting No. 3 Syracuse (7-2, 2-0 Big East) built a five-goal lead in the first half and won, 16-10, over No. 6 Notre Dame (8-2, 2-2). Kailah Kempney had a game-high five goals for the Fighting Irish. ... Dina Jackson and Caroline Tarzian each had a hat trick and No. 14 Georgetown (7-4, 3-1 Big East) won, 22-4, over Cincinnati (3-7, 0-3). The Hoyas opened with an 8-0 run and cruised.

Tides' roster features plenty of ex-major leaguers
The Norfolk Tides, the Triple-A affiliate of the Orioles, announced their Opening Day roster. The Tides' starting pitchers are Brad Bergesen, Chris Tillman, Armando Galarraga, Steve Johnson (St. Paul's) and Jason Berken. The bullpen consists of Willie Eyre, Chris George, Jon Link, Pat Neshek, Miguel Socolovich, Oscar Villarreal and Dontrelle Willis. Ryan Adams, Matt Antonelli, Josh Bell, Joe Mahoney, Steve Tolleson and Zelous Wheeler are the infielders, and Norfolk's outfielders are Xavier Avery, Scott Beerer, Jamie Hoffmann and Jai Miller. John Hester and Chris Robinson are the Tides' catchers, and pitcher Brandon Erbe (McDonogh) will begin the season on the disabled list.

Ex-Navy aide Crafton now Nyack men's hoops coach
Former Navy assistant coach Jason Crafton has been named head coach for Division II Nyack College in Nyack, N.Y. Crafton, a 2003 Nyack graduate, served as an assistant for the Midshipmen for seven years, including the past two as associate head coach.
Women's tennis: Washington College junior Kelsey Mills has been chosen to attend the NCAA National Career in Sports Forum, to be held June 7-10 in Indianapolis. The forum is a four-day event through which selected student-athletes will explore and be educated on careers in sports, with a primary focus on intercollegiate athletics.
Field hockey: Three Hood players have accepted an offer from USA Athletes International to play in Scotland this summer. Senior defender Amanda Blakeslee, junior midfielder Miriah Stone and sophomore midfield-defender Nicole Killmer will travel June 1-10 to play for the USA College team. While visiting cities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling, they will participate in four scheduled field hockey games.
