Showalter will reveal roster, rotation after today's game

April 04, 2012

Buck Showalter still isn’t officially revealing his roster or his full rotation until after today’s game against the Norfolk Tides – rosters have to be in by 5 p.m. EST. The game will probably end around 6.

He did say however that Tommy Hunter will pitch in game 2 – in between Opening Day starter Jake Arrieta and Sunday’s scheduled starter, Jason Hammel. The common belief had been that Wei-Yin Chen would pitch game 2, but that was speculation and nothing official from the Orioles.

Showalter is apparently saving his two left-handers, Brian Matusz and Wei-Yin Chen for the New York Yankees series, which starts Monday. But he’s not officially saying that or revealing which order they'll pitch.

He also has announced what is happening with the open relief spot, though we all expect Darren O’Day to be optioned and the two left-handed relievers, Troy Patton and Zach Phillips, to head north.

Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette said he would not be making any acquisitions before the rosters are due. He said he looked at trade possibilities, but nothing clicked.
