How smart meters are like Obamacare

A letter published in Monday's Sun "Smart meters are safe" (April 2) reminded me that I had planned to send you a note regarding BGE's plans for installation of those devices.

Correspondence I received from BGE addressed the pending installation of the new meters and — shades of Nancy Pelosi on Obamacare — stated in the first sentence of the second paragraph that "The features of the meters will be rolled out over time." What? There's no option to refuse installation of the meters. There's precious little information on what they will do and when they will do it, and we have to wait for BGE to provide that information when they are ready to do so.

I remember Ronald Reagan stating that the most frightening words you could hear were: I'm from the federal government, and I'm here to help. I'm not sure that BGE's implied "trust us" statements are any less concerning. Their past performance does not provide any reason for such trust.
