Glenelg coach Josh Hatmaker didn't have to give his team a motivational speech at halftime of his team's game at Marriotts Ridge. They knew what they had to do.

"We knew we had to get the ball to our big guns, and they had to put it in the net," Hatmaker said. "We also had to play a more physical game."

The tenth-ranked Gladiators (3-0, 3-0) did that and more to blow open up a halftime tie and defeat the neighborhood-rival Mustangs, 9-4, Friday night.

Brothers Nick and Mikey Wynne each scored a hat trick to pace Glenelg. Peter Bradley had two goals to lead the Mustangs (2-1, 2-1).

"We got off to a slow start, but our defense bailed us out," said Mikey Wynne. "Once we got the ball and increased the intensity, we started to bury our shots."

With Glenelg leading 2-1 after the first quarter, the Mustangs used a power play goal by Bradley to tie the score . Bradley found himself wide-open in front of the cage and buried a hard shot that beat Gladiators keeper Landry Marshall from 12 yards out to tie the game a 2-2 with 11:37 left in the half.

Glenelg regainedthe lead a little more than six minutes later, when the Gladiators used a power play of their own. Mikey Wynne scored on the last second of the penalty as he fired a high shot that beat Mustang's goalie Mack Schwarz to give Glenelg a 3-2 lead with 5:06 left in the second quarter.

Not to be outdone, Marriotts Ridge evened the score at 3-3 with 3:10 left in the half when Sean Harrison bounced a pass that eluded Marshall.

The Mustangs controlled the tempo for most of the first half, but Glenelg managed to make the most of the opportunities they were given.

The second half was all Glenelg. The Gladiators came out of the halftime break quickly and got two more goals from Mikey Wynne— one with 8:02 left and another with 6:36 left in the quarter — to run the lead to 5-3. The Gladiators added to their lead with 2:53 left in the quarter, when Nick Forrest beat Schwarz from close range on a power play to make it 6-3.

The Mustangs managed another goal by Bradley to cut the lead to 6-4 with 9:35 left in the game, but the Gladiators got two goals from Nick Wynne and Scott Offutt to close out the scoring.

"They are a rival, but we knew what we had to do," said Nick Wynne, who will play lacrosse at Towson next year. "Once we got going in the second half, we showed who we were."
