The 1940 census

A genealogy class with Bill Amos will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 11, at the Ellicott City Senior Center, 9401 Frederick Road. After a 72-year wait, the 1940 U.S. census will be unveiled Monday, April 2. Information: 410-313-1400.

Brain fitness

Registered Nurse Robin Zahor presents "Healthy Sleeping Habits" at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, at the Ellicott City Senior Center. Learn how sleep can affect brain performance. She will also offer tips to keep the mind sharp with diet, exercise, nutrition, sleep and stress management. Information: 410-313-1400.

Summer camps

Glen Mar United Methodist Church will hold one-week summer camp sessions June 18 through July 27 at the church, 4701 New Cut Road. Blood pressure screenings Stop in from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays at the Ellicott City Senior Center for free blood pressure readings by a registered nurse. Information: 410-313-1425.

Theater and lunch The Ellicott Senior Center sponsors a bus trip to the Rainbow Dinner Theater in Paradise, Pa., on Thursday, April 12. The day trip includes bus, show, lunch and gratuities. Buffet lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the show, "The Dixie Swim Club," begins at 1 p.m. The bus departs at 9:30 a.m. and returns at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $79 per person. Information: 410-313-1400. Driver safety program The Ellicott City Senior Center presents the American Association of Retired Persons' driver safety program from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 16. The class covers rules of the road, defensive driving techniques and how to operate a vehicle more safely. The course also reviews how to adjust to age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. The cost is $14, $12 for AARP members. Registration and information: 410-313-1400.
