Caregiver workshops

The Department of Aging and Disabilities' "Caring for You" series will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 12, and 19, at the Arnold Senior Activity Center, 44 Church Road. Workshops are for caregivers who may need help with coping with their situations while caring for a loved one. Topics will cover working with those with dementia, managing stress, learning essential coping skills, and realizing one's physical, emotional and spiritual health are all one package that needs attention. Mediation workshop

Mediation Services of Annapolis will present a "Mediation Workshop" at 10 a.m. April 17 at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center, 119 S. Villa Ave. Workshop covers how to approach difficult, uncomfortable and emotional topics, rehearsing upcoming conversations, and how to communicate more effectively. Pool tournament

Sign-up is underway for the Mufti-Center Billiards Tournament being held at the O'Malley Senior Activity Center, 1275 Odenton Road in Odenton, beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, April 13. To sign up and more information, call 410-222-6227.

Trips for 2012

Members of the Annapolis Senior Activity Center can stop by the trip desk for a preview of 2012 outings and make reservations and deposits. Trips include a visit to the Peddler's Village Strawberry Festival in Alaska, Pa., "Journey of Hope" to Gettysburg, Pa., and a cherry blossom excursion to Washington, followed by a luncheon cruise. Tax assistance

Trained volunteers will be available through Thursday, April 5, at the O'Malley Senior Activity Center, 1275 Odenton Road in Odenton, to assist seniors with federal and state tax preparation. Appointments required. Information: 410-222-6227.

Support groups

The Department of Aging and Disabilities has revised and updated a booklet on community support groups. Information in the booklet focuses on groups for care giving, Alzheimer's disease, bereavement for adults and children, diabetes, brain injury, cancer, stroke, cardiac and pulmonary problems, Parkinson's, and bowel and urinary diversions. Residents' rights

Brochures on residents' rights in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities and another brochure on the ombudsman program protecting those residents are available from the Department of Aging and Disabilities. The brochures are titled "Resident's Rights in Nursing Homes/Rehabilitation Centers in Maryland," "Resident's Rights in Assisted Living Facilities in Maryland" and "Ombudsman: Your Resident Advocate." Senior services

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities has published its 2011-2012 edition of "Services for Seniors, Adults with Disabilities and Caregivers." The directory includes information on rental and housing assistance, legal help, county social services benefits and caregiver information. Easter egg hunt Members are invited to bring pre-school and elementary school age children to the center at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 5, for an Easter egg hunt in the courtyard.

Hearing screenings Chesapeake Hearing Centers will give free screenings from 9 a.m. to noon April 12.

Concerts Charles Taylor and the Availables play Motown, jazz and blues at 12:30 p.m. April 11; Frank Curreri pays tribute to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett and others at 12:30 p.m. April 18, and The Pascal Go Getters perform a spring concert at 1 p.m. April 23.

Workshop Kater Leatherman, a professional organizer, presents a workshop, "What To Do With Your Stuff," from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11. Workshop will cover how to reduce clutter and organize your belongings and your life. Learn strategies for downsizing your possessions, learn ways to get support, and find out how keeping too much stuff can affect your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Sign-up by April 10.
