Men's lacrosse Player of the Week: John Ranagan, Johns Hopkins

March 29, 2012

John Ranagan, Johns Hopkins

Junior, Yorktown, N.Y., midfielder

Ranagan's only goal of the day proved to be the most pivotal, lifting the Blue Jays to an 11-10 overtime win at reigning national champion Virginia on Saturday. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound midfielder's high-to-low shot from the left alley — after four previous unsuccessful attempts — bounced past senior goalkeeper Rob Fortunato with 5.6 seconds left in the extra session and propelled the Blue Jays to their first victory in Charlottesville, Va., since 1998. Ranagan's eighth goal of the season helped vault Hopkins (8-0) over the Cavaliers (8-1) and into the top spot in the rankings.
