Pre-game notes: Orioles vs. Twins

March 27, 2012|By Eduardo A. Encina | The Baltimore Sun

SARASOTA, Fla. — The Orioles host the Twins this afternoon for a day-after-night game here at Ed Smith Stadium.

Several players who started in yesterday's night game against the Pirates in Bradenton will also start today, among them Nolan Reimold, Adam Jones, Matt Wieters, Wilson Betemit and Robert Andino.

One interesting caveat to today's lineup: Jones has been slotted in the cleanup spot a lot recently and is hitting .591 (13-for-22, 3 homers, 9 RBis) in the four hole, but Wieters will hit in the cleanup spot today. Wieters is 0-for-10 in the cleanup spot this season.

Tsuyoshi Wada will make his second Grapefruit League appearance today, and his first start. In his only other Grapefruit League appearance, Wada struck out three and allowed an earned run and one hit in two relief innings against the Braves on March 18. He also threw three relief innings Thursday in a minor league game against the Red Sox's Double-A team.

Here's the Orioles lineup:
Nolan Reimold LF
Nick Johnson DH
Adam Jones CF
Matt Wieters C
Mark Reynolds 3B
Wilson Betemit RF
Chris Davis 1B
Robert Andino SS
Ryan Flaherty 2B
Tsuyoshi Wada LHP
