Two area goalies headline weekly awards

Maryland's Amato, Navy's Wickham cited by respective conferences

A pair of goalkeepers were cited by their respective conferences for their efforts last week.

On Tuesday, Maryland redshirt sophomore Niko Amato was named the Defensive Player of the Week by the Atlantic Coast Conference for the second time this season. He made 12 saves in the No. 10 Terps’ 11-5 victory over then-No. 9 Villanova. The five goals were a season low for the Wildcats.

On Monday, Navy senior RJ Wickham was recognized by the Patriot League as its Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season. He stopped nine shots in the Midshipmen’s 10-6 win against Towson last Tuesday and then made a season-best 16 saves in a 13-7 victory over Holy Cross last Saturday. Wickham has made 411 saves in his career and became just the eighth goalie in the program’s history to surpass the 400-save mark.

Loyola junior Scott Ratliff shared the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s co-Specialist of the Week honors with Hobart senior faceoff specialist Bobby Dattilo. Ratliff, a long-stick midfielder who was honored as the league's Specialist of the Week earlier in the season, recorded two goals and one assist in the No. 8 Greyhounds’ 15-8 rout of Air Force last Saturday. He also collected a team-high seven groundballs and shut out Falcons sophomore attackman Mike Crampton in the second half after he had scored three times in the first stanza.
