A 21-year-old pedestrian was in critical condition after he ran across the east- and westbound lanes of Bel Air South Parkway and was struck about 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Monica Worrell, public information officer for the Harford County Sheriff's Office, said the accident occurred near Route 24. The pedestrian, a White Hall man whose name was not released, was struck by a Kia Sedona van driven by a 35-year-old Fallston woman, Worrell said. The driver's name also was not released.

The pedestrian was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries.

The driver had been traveling west in the right turn lane of Bel Air South Parkway when the pedestrian ran across the road, Worrell said. The driver struck the man with the front right side of the vehicle and he was thrown on to the sidewalk, according to Worrell. He was not in a designated crosswalk.
