Eat it Wolfpack: Baltimore places ahead of Raleigh, N.C., in 'Tastiest Towns' poll

March 15, 2012|By Richard Gorelick | The Baltimore Sun

Baltimore placed dead ninth in Southern Living's online poll to determine the South's "tastiest town." Baltimore placed behind, in order, Lafayette, La., Louisville, Ky., New Orleans, Charleston, S.C., Charlottesville, Va., Houston, Birmingham, Ala. and Decatur, Ga.

Baltimore did place ahead of Raleigh, N.C. in the poll. Eat it, Wolfpack. This is almost as satisfying as eliminating the Red Sox from the playoffs. Nine is fine.

The poll results are here.

The April issue of Southern Living featuring the "Tastiest Towns in the South" goes on newsstands on March 23, but you can preview the magazine's coverage of Baltimore's dining scene, including "The Perfect Eating Day in Baltimore," with stops at Greg's Bagels, Thames Street Oyster House and Woodberry Kitchen, and a Baltimore-inspired recipe for fried soft-shell crabs benedict.

The dining package also points out a few of Baltimore's tastemakers. Among these, Southern Living says, are Spike Gjerde of Woodberry Kitchen, Joseph Poupon of Patisserie Poupon, Ned Atwater of Atwater's Bakery and the San Francisco-based chef Michael Mina.
