Navy men lose to Bison in Patriot quarterfinals

Isaiah Roberts scored 20 points to lead Navy, which shot 52.5 percent (21-for-40), in an 87-63 loss to Bucknell on Wednesday night in the Patriot League quarterfinals.

Joe Willman scored 18 points and top-seeded Bucknell shot 62.7 percent from the field.

The Bison (23-8), the defending tournament champions, made 32 of 51 shots to hand the eighth-seeded Midshipmen (3-26) their 21st consecutive defeat.

Navy's loss extended its losing streak in Patriot tournament games to 12, the longest conference tournament losing streak in Division I.

Bucknell never trailed but didn't pull away until it outscored Navy 15-3 in the final five minutes of the first half. Willman scored eight points and Cameron Ayers seven in that stretch.

Bryson Johnson had 15 points, and Ayers had 10 points and five assists for the Bison.

Women

Old Dominion 65, Towson 50: The host Monarchs (10-20, 7-11 Colonial Athletic Association) used a strong start to the second half to beat the Tigers (16-13, 7-11) in the regular-season finale for both.

Krystin Fields and Krystal Parnell each had 16 points for Towson. Fields added 12 rebounds for her second doubledouble of the year.

With the loss on Wednesday night, the Tigers will now face the Lady Monarchs again next week in the first round of the CAA tournament.

"Old Dominion played an extremely strong second half and it cost us," said coach Joe Mathews.

"Hopefully we can put this game behind us. We feel like the tournament is the start of a new season and anything is possible."

Jackie Cook led Old Dominion with 20 points and five rebounds; Mari Buchan had 12 points and eight rebounds.
