A man died and another was critically injured early Tuesday when a vehicle overturned in Southwest Baltimore, according to city police and fire officials.
The accident occurred about 2:50 a.m. in the 200 block of South Hilton St., near Frederick Avenue, just west of the Mount Olive Cemetery. The cause of the accident was under investigation, but authorities said the 2004 Audi sedan was found on its roof with the driver-side door crushed.
Chief Kevin Cartwright, a spokesman for the Baltimore Fire Department, said the driver was pinned in the car, unconscious and suffering from an open skull fracture. Firefighters had to use hydraulic rescue tools to get him out; police said he was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:05 a.m.
Cartwright said firefighters found a passenger "walking around the scene with an altered mental state and obvious abrasions and contusions." The spokesman said the man remembered opening the door to get out of the sedan. He was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in critical condition.
No other details were immediately available. Police said victim who was taken to the hospital was 22 years old.
