Blast tonight: Norfolk SharX (3-11) at Blast (10-4)

January 19, 2012

When: Friday, 7:35 p.m.

Where: 1st Mariner Arena

Outlook: The Blast, front-runners in the Major Indoor Soccer League's Eastern Division, should come out plenty determined after having their five-game winning streak end against the last-place SharX, 17-12, in Norfolk on Jan. 12. The Blast's recent success can mostly be attributed to strong team defense, something that wasn't shown in the loss at Norfolk. Trailing 11-10 late in the third quarter, the Blast surrendered a three-point goal to SharX leading scorer Miguel Ferrer (27 points) and the Blast was unable to respond in the fourth quarter. For the season, the Blast has relied on balanced scoring with Machel Millwood (37 points), Adauto Neto (36) and Max Ferdinand (35) leading the offense and veteran goalie Sagu ranking second in the league with a 8.14 points-against average. The expansion SharX — who are making their first trip to Baltimore — have averaged a league-worst 18.4 points per game.
